Industrial worker strike in Kerala for better wage is being attended by a sizeable contingent of industrial workers from Kerala, sources said on Saturday.
The workers were attending the rally in Alappuzha, about 150 kilometres north of the capital, Kochi.
They are demanding better conditions for the labourers.
The state government has asked the Centre to take a decision by midnight.
The union has demanded that they receive the minimum wage of Rs 3,500 per month.
The strike is being held in solidarity with the workers in the state, the state government said in a statement.
The workers in Kerala are demanding an immediate increase in the minimum pay for the workers of the state.
They have been demanding that the state wage system be changed and the minimum wages be increased.
The Kerala government has been making no progress in this regard.
The unions, however, have called for the strike to be called off immediately and the state’s wage department should also be given time to prepare the necessary amendments.
This is a major blow to the state-based unions that have been fighting the wage hike and corruption scandals that have rocked Kerala in recent years.
